Recycle Your Old iPod

Since their release back in 2001, Apple have sold over 220 million iPods worldwide making it the best selling digital music player of all time. Apple released the iPhone back in 2007 and with the release of the iPhone 3G and 3GS later on to date they have sold a massive 22 million units worldwide. Although they have been such a huge success for the company, iPods, iPhones and other electronic gadgets are causing big problems to the environment.

Short Lifespan on Apple iPods

Although a huge success for Apple the big problem with iPods is that they may go faulty once the warranty has run out and in most cases it is cheaper to buy a new one rather than fix the old one. Apple tends to design products with a fairly short lifespan which means that many people will simply upgrade to the latest gadget rather than mess about with their old one; of course this is the same for many other gadgets and mobile phones.

A good idea would be to simply upgrade the existing iPod you already have with a new component that simply slots inside but unfortunately this will not make Apple enough money so is unlikely that this will be done at any time soon.

E-Waste Problem from iPods and iPhones

Unfortunately once people have no use for their unwanted iPod or iPhone in most cases whether it is working or faulty it will be thrown in the bin and end up at landfill. iPods and iPhones contain many dangerous materials that will take hundreds of years to break down at landfill and in the mean time will leak dangerous toxic chemicals into the soil. This can end up damaging natural habitants, water supplies and the environment.

Where Can Old iPods and iPhones be Recycled

Due to the above problems many mobile recycling sites have launched iPod recycling programs. These sites will either reuse or recycle your old iPods and iPhones and in return send you a cash payment. The sites that offer this service to UK residents include:

Mobile Cash Monster

Part of recycling giant Redeem PLC, Mobile Cash Monster allows you to sell your old iPod or iPhone in return for cash of up to £210 that is sent to you via cheque. To date they have already stopped over 50,000 tonnes of electrical waste from ending up at landfill.

Money4urMobile are one of the leading mobile recycling sites and also part of Redeem PLC. They will buy both working and faulty iPods and iPhones off you in return for a cash payment of up to £60 for an old iPod and £240 for an iPhone. Once they receive your old item payment will be sent out via cheque within 7 days or bank transfer (BACS) for a quicker payment.

Greentec

Greentec are one of the newest mobile recycling services but are slightly more unique as, as well as selling mobile phones and iPods they will also pay cash for digital cameras and games consoles. They guarantee highest prices and for many mobile phone models / iPhones this is true. Payment is sent via bank transfer (BACS) or cheque within 3 days of them receiving your old electronic goods.

iPod Recycling Becoming Extremely Popular Online

According to popular mobile recycling site, Mobile Cash Monster, the number of people recycling old iPods online is starting to catch up withthe number of mobile phones. They have reported a massive 35% rise in the last 6 months. The rise is put down to both technological advances and people wanting to get the latest gadget in their pockets and also everyone wanting to earn some fast cash.
